IT'S ONLY HUMAN NATURE TO LOVE THEM
The TIERNEY BROTHERS
By Iain Hogg
As young boys, and sons of piano teacher mum, Wendy, music was a big part of the upbringing of Andrew and Mike Tierney. The brothers would escape to their shared bedroom and write their own material and sing their tracks together.
“We can sing in unison and the harmonies almost become transparent, which is pretty cool,” Andrew reveals.
Fast forward decades, and some of those songs even featured on the playlists of Human Nature. The Tierney brothers make up one half of the iconic Aussie quartet who are celebrating a staggering 30 years in the music industry in 2026.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of their iconic first Motown album, Reach Out, on the back of a successful arena capital city tour and over 11 years on the Las Vegas strip, the group is heading to regional Australia.
“The tour will feature many of the Motown hits we’ve covered, and Human Nature favourites from over the years,” Mike shares.
It’s likely ‘My Girl’, ‘I’ll Be There’ and ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ will be front and centre.
While Human Nature has gone global over the past decade, the Tierney brothers saw a window of opportunity to release their own debut album of original songs.
“The idea of just us two came back to us,” Mike tells Australian Life. “When you can sing as a duo and it blends so well together, that’s a unique and special thing.”
The Soundtrack of My Life album is the Tierney duo at their best, filled with their smooth tenor voices we’ve come to love. While it’s been dubbed a genuine momentum shift, it will still make you smile.
The catchy tune and carefree guitar strum of the single ‘Lemonade’ is a great example of the duo’s talent in songwriting, while also musically representing an Australian summer. It feels acquainted, and reflects the brothers’ down-to-earth personalities, perhaps taking us back to those humble young men in the western suburbs of Sydney, where it all began.
Nowadays, the brothers live half their time in Las Vegas, with their own families (both married to sisters), but Australia is home right now as the ARIA award-winning foursome prepare for their sell-out tour.
Tickets are on sale now, and if their performance makes you jump out of your seat and dance, let it! It’s only human nature, after all!
