Alka Power Alkaline Water

HEAVEN SENT

Having lived in Canberra for many years, there was always something special in the air on getaways to the nearby New South Wales Southern Highlands.

It seems like there is something in the water as well.

I first heard about Alka Power Alkaline water when my gut specialist told me I needed to immediately incorporate it into my diet after years of constant stomach issues. To be honest, I had never heard of it. For Steve Pettaras, it’s his life’s work.

From his early 20’s until his mid 30’s, Steve was involved in martial arts, resistance weight training, as well as motorsports, so hydration was a really important of his lifestyle. He also owned two boutique personal training gyms in New South Wales, where he experienced first-hand the importance of an alkaline state for better recovery, particularly as we get older.

“It is very important what water and what food your body consumes. We really need to be aware of it as our bodies are only resilient for so long,” says Pettaras.

“When you drink types of spring waters it really depends on where they are sourced as many simply have low minerals or are very acidic. You also know how revitalised you feel after a swim in the ocean, well the ocean is alkaline,” he points out.

This was the start of his extensive research mission. Alkaline water was largely an unknown concept in the Australian market when he launched Alka Power in 2012.

“People just thought it was bottled water when we first started, but then when people started drinking it, they felt more energy and recovered better,” he adds.

But the factory remains the biggest secret in the industry. He doesn’t want the “secret ingredients to get out.

“All I will say is that we are in a remote area but next door to a state forest in the Southern Highlands and that’s where we draw the water from,” he laughs.

From there, its patented multi-step filtration process infuses the spring water with active, ocean-sourced marine minerals to achieve a high stable pH of 9 to 10 – the absolute global benchmark. ALKA POWER makes their own bottles at the state-of-the-art production facility using BPA-free, fully recyclable PET plastics.

They have been the number one alkaline water brand for well over a decade in Australia. They also sell in Hong Kong and are set for global expansion with distributors in the Middle East, China and India. “I want to conquer the world,” he jokes, but clearly, the team is on its way.

Alka Power started with their 600 ml and 1.5 litre bottles, and have recently launched at 10 litre bag and box. From this September, a one litre flip cap will be available. They are developing functional beverages and RTD’s for launch early 2027.

“We have had hundreds of thousands of people contacting us since our inception to say how Alka power has helped them with their health,” says Pettaras.

The bottles are famously blue, but look out for the special edition pink ones which support The National Breast Cancer Foundation for breast cancer research. Alka Power really is a bottle of goodness.
