KELLY McCLOSKEY
Kelly McCloskey is not you every day Melbourne basketball Mum. In between after school sport, this powerhouse somehow travels the world to international conferences and consultations as one of the world’s leading Feng Shui experts. Yes, Feng Shui. Kelly has studied under esteemed masters and has trained in a unique method that only a handful of Aussies know. She is one of them. It is time to get her over and transform my apartment! (she will have a heart attack when she walks in).
What does “Australian life” mean to you?
Sandals, aerogard layered on top of sunscreen, long balmy nights. To the world, Australia is a tropical haven, and while I love all of these things, it’s also so much more. Amazing food, a beautiful lifestyle – Australian life is all about embracing quality with a bit of frivolity.
What’s the best thing about products that are made in Australia?
There is so much talent here, why not buy local and help keep fellow businesses alive. Plus, products made in Australia not only support the local industry but help propel innovation – let’s all support each other.
In your travels across Australia, what’s your favourite little family holiday location and why?
We are lucky enough to have a little beach shack in Lorne on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula, that we love to head down to whenever the family’s schedule allows. My two sons (6 and 7 years old) love being part of the Lorne Lifesaving Club’s Nipper program and are keen surfers. It is such a beautiful and safe beach and on a summer’s day I think you’ll be hard pressed to find a more wonderful location.
Your favourite Aussie treat?
I’m a sucker for First Nations Art – does that count? I’m still saving for a Tommy Watson! And I do love BBQ Shapes!
How did you get started in Feng Shui?
I sold real estate for 15 years and I saw history repeat itself on a number of occasions. I’d be selling the home for a couple who had separated, a new couple would purchase it and a few years later, I’d get the call to come and sell the home. This couple had also gone their separate ways. I saw the same with health problems and finance issues.
Why is Feng Shui important?
Your home is a representation of you. If your environment doesn’t support you, life will be a constant battle. Once the energy of your home is in balance, life just flows. Doors open, opportunities present themselves, life is exciting! Classical Feng Shui is based on mathematics and science, not superstition and trinkets.
What does the next year hold for the business?
I’m so excited to have launched my first online course, introducing people to the principles of Feng Shui, so they can start to make changes that can have a really big impact on their lives. Being able to help as many people as possible live their best lives keeps me motivated and excited. I’ve seen some incredible transformations!
What’s one little bit of advice you have along the way, that has helped you as you have grown your business?
Karma is a real thing. Be a good person, help people when you can, you will be rewarded. Often, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know, and people will always remember how you treated them, even years down the track. Just be a good human being!
